Frequently Asked Questions

Short answers to the things people ask us most. If yours is not here, email dan@favu.com.au.

Delivery

Where do you deliver?

Two ways. Our own van runs every Wednesday across Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich and Moreton Bay — 115 postcodes, listed on our delivery areas page. Everything that travels well also goes by courier to the rest of Queensland, New South Wales, the ACT and Victoria. We do not currently ship to Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania or the Northern Territory.

When will my order arrive?

Local orders go out on the Wednesday van run. Order any day of the week and your delivery lands on the following Wednesday, excluding public holidays. You will get an SMS with an approximate time on the day. Courier orders are dispatched Monday to Friday and usually arrive within one to four business days.

How much is delivery?

Local delivery is $9.99, or $7.99 on orders over $50, and free on orders over $99. Minimum order $5. Courier rates are calculated at checkout from the weight of your order and your address. Free local delivery does not apply to courier orders.

Do you deliver to the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast or Toowoomba?

By courier, yes. Those are outside our Wednesday van run, so they get the lines that travel: green plantains, chillies, smoked catfish, sauces and dry goods.

Can I pick up instead?

Yes, by appointment from 35 McCullagh Crescent, Narangba QLD 4504. Email dan@favu.com.au to arrange a time. Orders are usually ready within 24 hours, subject to stock.

Which products can be sent interstate?

Green horn plantains, chillies, smoked catfish, pepper sauce and dry goods — see the Ships Interstate collection. Ripe and half-ripe plantains, leafy produce, eggs and frozen lines are local delivery or pickup only. They do not survive courier transit, so we would rather not send them than send you something spoiled.

Produce

Are your plantains Australian grown?

Yes. We buy direct from specialist farms in North Queensland, where the tropical climate suits crops that will not grow further south. Nothing in our plantain range is imported.

Is a horn plantain the same as a banana?

No. Horn plantains are larger, much starchier, and are cooked rather than eaten raw. They are a staple in West African, Caribbean, Latin American and Pacific Island cooking, where a dessert banana will not do the job. We explain the differences in horn plantain vs plantain vs banana.

Should I order green or ripe plantains?

Green for savoury cooking — tostones, patacones, chips, fufu. Ripe for sweet dishes — maduros, dodo, turon. Green plantains ripen on the bench over about five to seven days, so ordering green and waiting is a perfectly good way to get ripe ones. Only the green option ships interstate. See how to ripen plantains fast.

Why do some products show as unavailable?

Because we only list what is actually in season and in the shed. Our range is seasonal and comes off a small number of farms, so lines come and go through the year rather than sitting on a shelf year round. If something you want is not showing, email us and we will tell you when it is next expected.

How should I store what I buy?

It depends on the line — green plantains want the bench, not the fridge, and leafy produce wants the opposite. Our storage guide covers plantains, ginger, chillies, herbs and eggs.

Do you have recipes?

Yes — recipes and produce guides, including jollof rice, jerk chicken, maduros, tostones, okra soup with smoked catfish, Carolina Reaper sambal and snake bean thoran.

Ordering

Do you sell wholesale?

Yes, to cafes, restaurants, grocers, market stalls and caterers, on account. Wholesale is local only, on our own runs, and delivery is free on every wholesale order. Pricing runs between 15% and 35% below retail depending on volume, terms are Net 7, and the minimum order is $200. Apply on our wholesale page.

Something arrived wrong. What now?

Email dan@favu.com.au with your order number and a photo and we will sort it out. Produce is variable and weights move, so occasionally a line lands short — we would rather hear about it.

Can I order a specific quantity or a line you do not list?

Ask. Tell us the quantity and the week you need it and we will tell you what we can get from our growers. Contact us.
